This is part 2 of the interview with Colby Jansen [part 1].
Q11 It would seem that the normal trajectory…. not that YOU have ever followed the normal trajectory of course… but the normal trajectory of a porn star is to start in porn, branch out to dancing and then escorting. You started in escorting then ventured into porn. Do you still escort? And care to share any wild stories? Romantic clients? Alex Forrest (Glenn Close from ‘Fatal Attraction’) encounters?
I do escort, it was something I kind of fell into and certainly didn’t think I would actually enjoy. The funny part about escorting (and there’s a difference between that and hustling) is that there is very little sex involved. It’s hard to explain to anyone who doesn’t hire and isn’t an escort themselves. I don’t discuss anything that goes on between them and I, as I respect their privacy as much as I value my own. My branch into porn was basically because I enjoy sex and performing, I’m a bit of a narcissist and there is a decent amount of money to be made doing it. It’s 2012 and the world’s view on porn has changed considerably over the last 20 years, so it’s not such a huge stigma as it was. That said, sadly I don’t think my Senatorial Campaign has much of a future at this point!
Q12 Ok let’s get down to porn. In 2007 and 2008 you logged appearances on ‘RealityPornTheater’, a straight site (a blow job and a threeway) and then two movies over at Amateur Straight Guys. Looking back, how do you feel about those first few clips? Were you apprehensive at all?
Well the thing that you don’t know is that I was also doing webcam shows with girls through ifriends. I was hooking up with this girl who was a stripper at Camelot in DC and she got me into the gig with RPT. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, RPT never really took off, but it was a great experience. While I was there in Phoenix one of the actors mentioned how I could make some good $ with ASG. So, since I was curious (not that I needed the money that badly) and there was a decent pay day, I talked with Doug & Jay about filming and next thing I knew I was doing gay porn. I was very nervous about the gay stuff, the straight stuff was no big deal – the gay stuff was much more of a mind fuck for me as I really had limited interactions with guys at that point. Also, keeping a boner on camera in a room full of people that I didn’t know had me so freaked out I was afraid I might not be able to perform. Obviously, I did and it was great, but at that time I was still sorting out my own sexuality – so I didn’t really feel the need to pursue gay porn. Plus, it’s not like porn is the only thing I could be doing with my life.
Q13 Then you did a Kink.com BoundGods clip with one of my all time favorite porn stars, the very awesome sauce Trent Diesel, and later a Bound in Public and Men On Edge clip. An admitted control freak and dominant top (I saw that raging boner when you were flogging Trent and had him in stock), what’s it like to relinquish control and trust your scene parter? Discuss. (BTW that scream when he rubbed your nipples after having them clamped seemed awfully…..genuine)
That scene with Trent was fantastic, I really enjoyed working with him, he’s a great performer, he’s sexy and he’s super cool off camera as well. I feel lucky that I was paired up with Trent because he was so easy going and fun to work with. I was decently nervous, but I knew what I was going into. The nipple part was rough- that was an incredible amount of pain/pleasure to endure. The thing that you don’t see from the video is that the camera guy missed it the first take! So, that’s actually the second take. In one way I was ready for that time, but in another way it made it worse for me as it hurt so badly the first time, I was almost not even going to let Trent do it a second time. Giving up control for me isn’t easily done, but Trent and I had good communication and I was pretty into it – and all I kept thinking about was how nice it was going to be to get back (and get in) at him.
Q14 In addition, you logged appearances on the reality porn sites “Out in Public” and “Ungloryhole” followed by two stellar buttpounding clips on Men.com. And you seem very natural acting in the non-hardcore portions. That said, do you feel an appreciable and quantifiable difference between self identified gay scene partners and ‘straight’/gay for pay performers?
Honestly, I haven’t really had a big enough sample size to truly answer this question. I think that the guys I work with might think I’m gay for pay only, so I try to make it known that I’m bi. I think that makes it easier for them with me. It all comes down to chemistry anyway, I think that comes through regardless of gay or straight.
Q15 Compare and contrast your experiences with a studio outfit like Kink.com that appears to really craft, plan, shoot and edit its nearly hour long clips (and frankly has gay directors) versus say Men.com which appears to stockpile clips and release almost daily (and features female and straight male directors with a straight porn background).
Well, both studios are very professional and I don’t really feel much of a difference director-wise, as it’s gay porn anyway. Kink.com has their way of conducting business and so does men.com. At Kink, I’ve only worked with Van where with Men, I’ve worked with a few different directors, I’m comfortable with all of them and if I had an issue I’d raise it. Since I don’t, I don’t have much I can extrapolate on.
Q16 In your Morningwoodclub interview you gave the following advice to those looking to pursue adult film work: “If you understand what you’re getting yourself into, and you do it safely you can have fun and make a lot of money. However, too many guys take unnecessary chances and demean themselves in order to make a quick buck. Have a plan, stick to it, and most of all be true to yourself, once you make exceptions and poor decisions, they have a way of compounding themselves into way bigger problems. Don’t make a permanent mistake to solve a temporary problem.” Quite possibly the BEST advice I think I’ve ever heard. You seem to be addressing not only the gay for pay issue but also barebacking and the still controversial “Testing is not a condom” stance. Was that where you were going? Weigh in on testing and its reliability and the bareback issue…
Ok, this is something I am very passionate about, HIV/AIDS is a very real problem in the world. The studios that don’t use condoms and proper testing are putting their employees (models) in real danger. I’ve heard all their lame excuses and I’m also privy to the higher per scene rates they claim, which is hardly worth it to expose one’s self to bareback sex. The portrayal of actors engaging in bareback sex only encourages the everyday gay man to think that it is acceptable behavior. The 18-25 year olds that are out there have virtually no fear of HIV/AIDS and I feel that it is up to the porn companies that are out there to set an example and take a lead in the fight. It is reckless and heartless to take advantage of these younger guys, just in the name of, “it’s hot”.
Q17 If you search, there is an escort review that states that you bottomed for a client (he dug it by the way!). Also the consensus around the net is that you could make a BUH-ZILLION dollars (yes, that’s a technical accounting term) as a bottom. Will we ever see you bottom in porn? And more importantly, do you bottom with Gia? ‘Cause I’ll tell you what… I’m a huge Gia fan and I’ve seen her top! She’s brutal and fish-hooks men (!)
Well, unfortunately people can write whatever they want in an escort review. Have I bottomed before in my private life, yes, it was all part of my own sexual exploration. Do I actively bottom now? Sorry, no I don’t. I realize people want to see that, so I won’t close the door on the issue, but for now, I’m just a top, it’s what I like both professionally and privately. Well, I just posted on my own blog on http://colbyjansen.com/Blog.html that Gia & I just bought a house in Buffalo, NY and we still have our apartment in Toronto. So, now that we have some more permanence to our living arrangements we’re going to get the ball rolling on a few new things. The first will be my hosting a porn party night at Club 120 (formerly GoodHandy’s Club, 120 Church St. Toronto, M5C) then I may do a few appearances later in the fall, which I’ll announce when I have that firmed up. There will be an announcement coming up in a few days, but I have to wait on that. The move to Scotland will have to wait a few years, if I can convince Gia to leave LA for Buffalo/Toronto I’m pretty sure I can get her to cross the pond with me.

It says a lot about your personality and background. But PLEASE….WHAT IN HOGWARTS is up with your obsession with Cthulhu??? I love me some Lovecraft (yes to ‘At the Mountains of Madness’) but….
I am an avid reader of Sci-Fi (right now I am reading Rothfuss’ “The Name of the Wind”) and the Cthulhu Mythos is one of my favorite spin offs & goofy quirks. I like that 99% of people have no idea even how to pronounce Cthulhu let alone know that is was a sci-fi short story written in 1928. The writing style is so unique and creepy that something about it just calls to me. I used to have a Cthulhu magnet on the back of my car that looked like a Jesus-fish, people would always look at it and be puzzled. I guess I just like to confuse people and you have to admit, the description of Cthulhu is pretty fucking scary and impressive!
Q20 And now a round of five stupid questions (choose your answer and give a small explanation):
a. You are asked to go back into the military and must train in one of the following fight forms: “Krav Maga or Mixed Martial Arts” Which do you choose?
Krav Maga is designed to kill, not just look pretty in a fight with rules. I’d go with Krav Maga any day if I was going back in, but then again, I want to wear my hair in a faux hawk and runaround in tapout shorts….
b. New York is under attack by aliens and you have to call in reinforcements. Do you call ‘The Avengers’ or ‘The Justice League’?
Gotta call in the Avengers for no other reason than I’m a Marvel guy (and they could also bring in Frank Castle as well, because he’ll get done what the other pretty boys won’t finish).
c. Which proposed remake of a beloved 80’s movie would you rather see: “Ghostbusters” (yes, it could happen) or “Real Genius”?
Oh dear lord! This is the first I’m hearing of this, so I guess I’d have to go with Real Genius. I don’t know who would be best to play Val Kilmer, but in the immortal words of Socrates, “I drank what?”
d. Gia says you can sleep with one of the following celebrities with no relationship repercussions: Chris Hemsworth (aka Thor) or Channing Tatum (aka Duke/Magic Mike). Who do you choose?
That’s a tough call, but I’ll go with Channing Tatum, he’s got quite the cute ass!
e. This one’s more of an open ended question: You have the power to override Congress and command the President and all his resources to fix ONE COMPELLING issue facing our citizens….which one???
Not to get on a political soap box or anything (but you asked!), I would force change in the way that public education is given. We have a system where the school district that you live in is funded by the people in the community. This is great if you live in McLean, VA or Sausalito, CA but what about the inner cities and the rural areas. We have a system that perpetuates the welfare state because we can’t get good teachers and safe schools in poorer areas. Right now in Chicago, kids are being murdered every day on their way to, in and on the way home from school. While just a few miles away, the white upper class kids go to either private academies or very nice public schools. We’re allowing a gap in funding to create a gap in technology. These kids growing up in underprivileged and frankly no fucking privilege schools, that are so segregated from the rest of society that they can’t even comprehend that there is something better out there. So, in a nutshell, I’d make it so that the access to learning and safe learning at that was available to every student out there. It’s terrible that we live in a country that has so much wealth and excess, yet we can’t find it within ourselves to pay some extra taxes to make sure that the next generation can succeed. As it stands right now, the inner city and rural students are being left behind and it’s mainly because of lack of funding and piss poor planning.
